She said exactly 1:05am she heard a very loud noise from the location and thought it was explosion from blasting of stones by quarry but later realised it wasn’t.

On approaching the site of the incident later in the morning, many houses were brought down by the explosion with a lot of people injured.

From the picture above, one can see how the explosion created a deep gully at the spot of the incident.

However another counter story sent to our desk via an email has it that a reliable police source in Akure unofficially stated that a truck carrying the bomb went off in explosion on approaching the capital city.

The source further said the bomb was meant to use to attack Akure the state capital.

But the main witness however said she was yet to confirm if there was any casualty from the explosion and whether or not it was a bomb explosion.

at the moment, national emergency management agency NEMA team is on the affected spot rescuing and offering help to those involved in the disaster.

As earlier promised, we have returned with an update on this report.

The Nigerian police has come out to state that the explosion was actually caused by the IDEs(improvised Explosive Devices) carried by a truck heading to the quarry sites when the truck carrying the items developed fault along the Akure Owo road.

While they tried to find a place where fewer or no houses were found at all, it became so obvious that the truck had already starting burning.

Then they had to escape and ran far after which the explosives blew off .

Therefore, it wasn’t a case of insurgency like some news blogs reported earlier in the day.
